Narrative:
There is a tower at least 200 ft high on approach to runway 12 at cibao international, santiago, dominican republic, which is not charted on the GPS approach to that runway. It is less than 500 ft left of centerline. An aircraft slightly low and left stands a significant chance of hitting it. It is so 'scary close' that approach briefings often include 'let me know when you see the tower and make sure we'll miss it.' there are several towers to the right of the approach course which are farther from centerline but about as high. None are charted on the approach plate! Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter was concerned that the towers he reported were too close to the approach end of the runway and considered them a hazard to safe flight. However, after conversing with the reporter, he called back 30 mins later to report that he was wrong, they are now charted on the approach plate.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A RPTR STATES THAT FLYING INTO STI, FO, THERE ARE UNCHARTED TWRS CLOSE BY THE RWY ON AN APCH TO THE E. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH BY THE FO, THE RPTR CORRECTS HIS STATEMENT TO INFORM ANALYST THAT THE TWRS ARE CHARTED.
Narrative: THERE IS A TWR AT LEAST 200 FT HIGH ON APCH TO RWY 12 AT CIBAO INTL, SANTIAGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, WHICH IS NOT CHARTED ON THE GPS APCH TO THAT RWY. IT IS LESS THAN 500 FT L OF CTRLINE. AN ACFT SLIGHTLY LOW AND L STANDS A SIGNIFICANT CHANCE OF HITTING IT. IT IS SO 'SCARY CLOSE' THAT APCH BRIEFINGS OFTEN INCLUDE 'LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU SEE THE TWR AND MAKE SURE WE'LL MISS IT.' THERE ARE SEVERAL TWRS TO THE R OF THE APCH COURSE WHICH ARE FARTHER FROM CTRLINE BUT ABOUT AS HIGH. NONE ARE CHARTED ON THE APCH PLATE! CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR WAS CONCERNED THAT THE TWRS HE RPTED WERE TOO CLOSE TO THE APCH END OF THE RWY AND CONSIDERED THEM A HAZARD TO SAFE FLT. HOWEVER, AFTER CONVERSING WITH THE RPTR, HE CALLED BACK 30 MINS LATER TO RPT THAT HE WAS WRONG, THEY ARE NOW CHARTED ON THE APCH PLATE.
