Narrative:
This event was a landing, not an accident. A belly landing of a 1948 bonanza took place due to a banjo connector in the landing gear mechanism failing. An annual was performed and completed shortly prior to the event, but the banjo connector was covered by the skin of aircraft as are other parts and hot part of the annual inspection. If these parts are to be included in the annual inspections, openings and cover plates should be provided for this purpose. A cracked or defective part would still not be noticed by this remedy. Suggest a change in the engineering. Note: I know this is a late report but due to the flu bug I have been sick ever since late sep/98 till now with complications. I thought I would send it in anyway.
