Air Traffic Incident | Pilot Deviation Intra Facility Coordination Failure |
Narrative:
1) VFR departure was planned for XA00 local from colorado springs international (cos) -- VFR direct to arlington, tx, (gky). 2) contacted cos ground control for departure clearance and taxi instructions. 3) received VFR departure ('fly runway headings after takeoff and taxi to runway 17R). ATIS also indicated runways 17L and 17R in use. 4) taxied to runway 17R, made run-up, advised cos tower that I was ready for takeoff at runway 17R. I believe there was a change in controllers after that contact. 5) tower advised me to 'hold short at runway 17R,' which I did. Landing traffic touched down long and did a touch and go. 6) tower cleared me for takeoff, which I did on runway 17R. 7) immediately after takeoff, tower advised that I had been cleared to takeoff on runway 12 instead of runway 17R. Tower advised that no incident had been caused and gave me a radar vector to departure heading for gky. 8) runways 17R and 12 share the same general area for departures. This area is very confusing at night. 9) suggest tower give more explicit instructions for taxi to runway 12 for takeoff after 'hold short' instructions are given.

Title: BE35 PLT DEPARTED COS ON THE WRONG RWY.
Narrative: 1) VFR DEP WAS PLANNED FOR XA00 LCL FROM COLORADO SPRINGS INTL (COS) -- VFR DIRECT TO ARLINGTON, TX, (GKY). 2) CONTACTED COS GND CTL FOR DEP CLRNC AND TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. 3) RECEIVED VFR DEP ('FLY RWY HDGS AFTER TKOF AND TAXI TO RWY 17R). ATIS ALSO INDICATED RWYS 17L AND 17R IN USE. 4) TAXIED TO RWY 17R, MADE RUN-UP, ADVISED COS TWR THAT I WAS READY FOR TKOF AT RWY 17R. I BELIEVE THERE WAS A CHANGE IN CTLRS AFTER THAT CONTACT. 5) TWR ADVISED ME TO 'HOLD SHORT AT RWY 17R,' WHICH I DID. LNDG TFC TOUCHED DOWN LONG AND DID A TOUCH AND GO. 6) TWR CLRED ME FOR TKOF, WHICH I DID ON RWY 17R. 7) IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF, TWR ADVISED THAT I HAD BEEN CLRED TO TKOF ON RWY 12 INSTEAD OF RWY 17R. TWR ADVISED THAT NO INCIDENT HAD BEEN CAUSED AND GAVE ME A RADAR VECTOR TO DEP HDG FOR GKY. 8) RWYS 17R AND 12 SHARE THE SAME GENERAL AREA FOR DEPS. THIS AREA IS VERY CONFUSING AT NIGHT. 9) SUGGEST TWR GIVE MORE EXPLICIT INSTRUCTIONS FOR TAXI TO RWY 12 FOR TKOF AFTER 'HOLD SHORT' INSTRUCTIONS ARE GIVEN.
