Narrative:
In making a training flight in a beech baron from chico to carlsbad, ca, with stop at los banos (lsn), our block-to- block time almost went over the allowable 8 hours for instruction under part 91. Due to delays, headwinds and routing, we nearly went over the block-to-block time allowable. It would be nice if there were a way to alleviate this problem, since it would have been very easy to exceed our time. Something like part 135 operators have, for example. All the ATC people we dealt with were exceptional and did their best, but fog, flow, and traffic happen. On our return route, they got us more direct routing via lake hughes VOR rather than all the way out to palmdale. Kudos to ATC for doing their best.
