Narrative:
Called 7 mi out from glenns ferry, identification (U89), and began the descent to pattern altitude. Made towards midfield to look at the wind indicators and then entered a midfield left downwind for runway 26. Slightly past the runway 26 threshold I began the normal descent to landing, throttled back to 1700 RPM, turned base and I pulled 10 degrees of flaps. When I turned final I overshot the runway centerline but corrected and tracked to the runway. The approach looked and felt normal until short final when I seemed really low. I removed the carburetor heat and added some power but I continued descending, and I added all available power. I struck a fence before the threshold of runway 26 but I did not feel the plane impact the ground. I followed the runway and climbed while I removed a notch of flaps. I lowered the nose to accelerate to 85 KTS and then I removed the last notch of flaps. I only noticed light to some moderate turbulence. I misjudged the GS on final although to me the approach and GS looked normal until short final. I failed to add power to correct the GS soon enough to avoid sinking too low.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A LNDG PA28-140 PLT UNDERSHOT HIS APCH AND HITS A FENCE PRIOR TO THE RWY THRESHOLD, GOING AROUND SUCCESSFULLY. NO MENTION OF ACFT DAMAGE.
Narrative: CALLED 7 MI OUT FROM GLENNS FERRY, ID (U89), AND BEGAN THE DSCNT TO PATTERN ALT. MADE TOWARDS MIDFIELD TO LOOK AT THE WIND INDICATORS AND THEN ENTERED A MIDFIELD L DOWNWIND FOR RWY 26. SLIGHTLY PAST THE RWY 26 THRESHOLD I BEGAN THE NORMAL DSCNT TO LNDG, THROTTLED BACK TO 1700 RPM, TURNED BASE AND I PULLED 10 DEGS OF FLAPS. WHEN I TURNED FINAL I OVERSHOT THE RWY CTRLINE BUT CORRECTED AND TRACKED TO THE RWY. THE APCH LOOKED AND FELT NORMAL UNTIL SHORT FINAL WHEN I SEEMED REALLY LOW. I REMOVED THE CARB HEAT AND ADDED SOME PWR BUT I CONTINUED DSNDING, AND I ADDED ALL AVAILABLE PWR. I STRUCK A FENCE BEFORE THE THRESHOLD OF RWY 26 BUT I DID NOT FEEL THE PLANE IMPACT THE GND. I FOLLOWED THE RWY AND CLBED WHILE I REMOVED A NOTCH OF FLAPS. I LOWERED THE NOSE TO ACCELERATE TO 85 KTS AND THEN I REMOVED THE LAST NOTCH OF FLAPS. I ONLY NOTICED LIGHT TO SOME MODERATE TURB. I MISJUDGED THE GS ON FINAL ALTHOUGH TO ME THE APCH AND GS LOOKED NORMAL UNTIL SHORT FINAL. I FAILED TO ADD PWR TO CORRECT THE GS SOON ENOUGH TO AVOID SINKING TOO LOW.
