Narrative:
After landing on runway 21L at dtw, we were instructed to taxi to the gate via taxiway M and taxiway M3. I did not hear the taxiway M3 routing. We normally taxi via taxiway M2, taxiway H, which is a direct route to the gate. As we pulled in to the gate, ground control told us that taxiway H was closed. My first officer then told me that we were instructed to use taxiway M3, which meant taxi past our normal route to the gate and back taxi. We had no information that indicated the taxiway being closed. The broadcast ATIS stated that numerous txwys were closed, but did not indicate which ones were closed. That ATIS we received via ACARS had no mention of any txwys being closed. There were no cones or barricades indicating that taxiway H was closed. Missed taxi instruction, lack of communication among the crew, routine taxi rtes, and lack of proper notification of closed txwys and lack of appropriate markings, led to this situation.

Title: ACR B737 FLC TAXI ON CLOSED TXWY ENRTE TO GATE. PIC ASSERTS INSUFFICIENT INFO PROVIDED VIA ACARS OR TWR GND CTLR.
Narrative: AFTER LNDG ON RWY 21L AT DTW, WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO TAXI TO THE GATE VIA TXWY M AND TXWY M3. I DID NOT HEAR THE TXWY M3 ROUTING. WE NORMALLY TAXI VIA TXWY M2, TXWY H, WHICH IS A DIRECT RTE TO THE GATE. AS WE PULLED IN TO THE GATE, GND CTL TOLD US THAT TXWY H WAS CLOSED. MY FO THEN TOLD ME THAT WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO USE TXWY M3, WHICH MEANT TAXI PAST OUR NORMAL RTE TO THE GATE AND BACK TAXI. WE HAD NO INFO THAT INDICATED THE TXWY BEING CLOSED. THE BROADCAST ATIS STATED THAT NUMEROUS TXWYS WERE CLOSED, BUT DID NOT INDICATE WHICH ONES WERE CLOSED. THAT ATIS WE RECEIVED VIA ACARS HAD NO MENTION OF ANY TXWYS BEING CLOSED. THERE WERE NO CONES OR BARRICADES INDICATING THAT TXWY H WAS CLOSED. MISSED TAXI INSTRUCTION, LACK OF COM AMONG THE CREW, ROUTINE TAXI RTES, AND LACK OF PROPER NOTIFICATION OF CLOSED TXWYS AND LACK OF APPROPRIATE MARKINGS, LED TO THIS SIT.
