Narrative:
Pueblo ground controller issued taxi instructions of 'taxi to runway 8L, hold short of runway 8R.' at pueblo memorial, runway 8R is part of the same pavement as the ramp with only a solid yellow line separating the taxiway from the runway. As I taxied west on the taxiway it appeared the taxiway continued parallel to runway 8R and crossing runway 17/35 (see the attached airport diagram I was using). After crossing the hold short line and runway 17/35, the ground controller (who was also the tower controller concurrently) informed me I was to have held short, but go ahead and continue to taxi to runway 8L. There was no landing or taxiing other aircraft on runway 8R or runway 17/35 therefore no danger to other aircraft occurred. Only a violation of the hold short directions. The problem was caused by my confusion as to whether I was crossing runway 8R or runway 17/35. It should be noted, the taxiway remained south of runway 8R, but as it crossed over runway 17, I guess it is also close enough to be considered to be in the path of runway 8R approach. I mistakenly thought the controller was telling me to taxi clear of runway 8R, by remaining on the taxiway. In future, I will get a progressive at an unfamiliar airport.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AC14 PLT, UNFAMILIAR WITH ARPT, TAXIES ACROSS RWY AFTER BEING INSTRUCTED TO HOLD SHORT.
Narrative: PUEBLO GND CTLR ISSUED TAXI INSTRUCTIONS OF 'TAXI TO RWY 8L, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 8R.' AT PUEBLO MEMORIAL, RWY 8R IS PART OF THE SAME PAVEMENT AS THE RAMP WITH ONLY A SOLID YELLOW LINE SEPARATING THE TXWY FROM THE RWY. AS I TAXIED W ON THE TXWY IT APPEARED THE TXWY CONTINUED PARALLEL TO RWY 8R AND XING RWY 17/35 (SEE THE ATTACHED ARPT DIAGRAM I WAS USING). AFTER XING THE HOLD SHORT LINE AND RWY 17/35, THE GND CTLR (WHO WAS ALSO THE TWR CTLR CONCURRENTLY) INFORMED ME I WAS TO HAVE HELD SHORT, BUT GO AHEAD AND CONTINUE TO TAXI TO RWY 8L. THERE WAS NO LNDG OR TAXIING OTHER ACFT ON RWY 8R OR RWY 17/35 THEREFORE NO DANGER TO OTHER ACFT OCCURRED. ONLY A VIOLATION OF THE HOLD SHORT DIRECTIONS. THE PROB WAS CAUSED BY MY CONFUSION AS TO WHETHER I WAS XING RWY 8R OR RWY 17/35. IT SHOULD BE NOTED, THE TXWY REMAINED S OF RWY 8R, BUT AS IT CROSSED OVER RWY 17, I GUESS IT IS ALSO CLOSE ENOUGH TO BE CONSIDERED TO BE IN THE PATH OF RWY 8R APCH. I MISTAKENLY THOUGHT THE CTLR WAS TELLING ME TO TAXI CLR OF RWY 8R, BY REMAINING ON THE TXWY. IN FUTURE, I WILL GET A PROGRESSIVE AT AN UNFAMILIAR ARPT.
