Narrative:
I was called out on a reserve trip to deadhead ewr-lax at departure time XA00. After a 6 hour 15 min block-to-block, I crossed ramp and began operating scheduled service back to ewr. Upon entry to the ramp in ewr, the captain shut down the left engine, received ground signal that chocks were in, and called for the 'parking checklist' which I provided the challenge and he the response. The checklist was completed successfully and the captain made a dash for the jetway to catch a connecting flight home and I stayed in my seat to finish posting out the flight via ACARS. As the passenger were deplaning through the jetway, the lead ramp person handling flight inbound entered doorway and questioned why the right engine was running after he announced that ground power was available. I took it upon myself to shut down the right engine. The captain's need to get on his flight home and my exhaustion from deadhead and redeye led us to missing the engine shutdown procedure in proper sequence.
