Narrative:
On radar vectors from bay approach control to oak, approximately 4 NM east of sav VOR, we were descending to assigned altitude of 5000 ft MSL. Bay approach control pointed out traffic at 9 O'clock position, but passing 5600 ft MSL received TCASII RA from 3 O'clock position traffic approximately 4 mi and 400-600 ft below our altitude. Responded to a series of TCASII RA commands which resulted in a climb with the TCASII traffic climbing with us. Finally received 'clear of conflict' advisory after climbing to 8000 ft MSL. Returned to 5000 ft MSL without further incident. 3 O'clock position RA traffic was never pointed out by bay approach control until after TCASII RA event began. Thereafter approach control's only reference to the TCASII traffic was that it was 'over 5 mi away.'

Title: B737 CREW FOLLOWED A SERIES OF TCASII RA COMMANDS WHILE BEING VECTORED BY BAY APCH CTL.
Narrative: ON RADAR VECTORS FROM BAY APCH CTL TO OAK, APPROX 4 NM E OF SAV VOR, WE WERE DSNDING TO ASSIGNED ALT OF 5000 FT MSL. BAY APCH CTL POINTED OUT TFC AT 9 O'CLOCK POS, BUT PASSING 5600 FT MSL RECEIVED TCASII RA FROM 3 O'CLOCK POS TFC APPROX 4 MI AND 400-600 FT BELOW OUR ALT. RESPONDED TO A SERIES OF TCASII RA COMMANDS WHICH RESULTED IN A CLB WITH THE TCASII TFC CLBING WITH US. FINALLY RECEIVED 'CLR OF CONFLICT' ADVISORY AFTER CLBING TO 8000 FT MSL. RETURNED TO 5000 FT MSL WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. 3 O'CLOCK POS RA TFC WAS NEVER POINTED OUT BY BAY APCH CTL UNTIL AFTER TCASII RA EVENT BEGAN. THEREAFTER APCH CTL'S ONLY REF TO THE TCASII TFC WAS THAT IT WAS 'OVER 5 MI AWAY.'
