Narrative:
Rumor has it there was smoke in the cockpit. I am only aware that lavatory left side smoke detector continuously chimed -- could not be reset and the reading lights on the r-hand side would spontaneously go out in first class and mid-cabin. 10 mins out of ord the captain made the announcement we were going back to ord. We were met with fire trucks and once at the gate they boarded the aircraft. No evacuate/evacuation was necessary.

Title: CABIN ATTENDANT RPT REGARDING A B757 ON WHICH THE SMOKE DETECTOR ACTIVATED AND COULD NOT BE RESET. THERE WAS ALSO A PROB WITH LIGHTING BECOMING INTERMITTENT AND GOING OFF AND ON. FLC RETURNED TO DEP ARPT.
Narrative: RUMOR HAS IT THERE WAS SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT. I AM ONLY AWARE THAT LAVATORY L SIDE SMOKE DETECTOR CONTINUOUSLY CHIMED -- COULD NOT BE RESET AND THE READING LIGHTS ON THE R-HAND SIDE WOULD SPONTANEOUSLY GO OUT IN FIRST CLASS AND MID-CABIN. 10 MINS OUT OF ORD THE CAPT MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT WE WERE GOING BACK TO ORD. WE WERE MET WITH FIRE TRUCKS AND ONCE AT THE GATE THEY BOARDED THE ACFT. NO EVAC WAS NECESSARY.
