Narrative:
En route from mex to san diego mexican controllers cleared us to 8000 ft. We were then handed off to socal approach, who gave us a vector. At 9000 ft socal transmitted that our assigned altitude was 10000 ft. Neither the captain or myself heard that our altitude assignment had changed during initial contact with socal.

Narrative: ENRTE FROM MEX TO SAN DIEGO MEXICAN CTLRS CLRED US TO 8000 FT. WE WERE THEN HANDED OFF TO SOCAL APCH, WHO GAVE US A VECTOR. AT 9000 FT SOCAL XMITTED THAT OUR ASSIGNED ALT WAS 10000 FT. NEITHER THE CAPT OR MYSELF HEARD THAT OUR ALT ASSIGNMENT HAD CHANGED DURING INITIAL CONTACT WITH SOCAL.
