Narrative:

Hydrochloric acid (13,2L) was loaded and carried on passenger aircraft. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that what he saw in his flight operations manual after the flight was an illegal acid that resembled hydrochloric in name. In researching further with the company safety reps, he found that the amount of hydrochloric acid that was actually carried on the flight was legal. The legality rests with the amount of that acid that is shipped. The gate agent's slip that the captain signed showed 20 packages of 660 milliliter containers, for a total of about 13.2 liters (3.45 united states gallons) of acid. At the time, the captain had felt that the company was correct in the labeling and shipping of this material but later had second thought. That is when he filed the erroneous report on an alleged illegal shipment.
