Narrative:
After takeoff from las, climbing on an assigned heading of 120 degrees, departure control advised us we were cleared to maintain 8000 ft and were passing through 8600 ft. We were instructed to turn left to a heading of 080 degrees and to expedite our climb on up to 15000 ft, that there was conflicting traffic 120 degrees from our position. The autoplt was in use and I thought the altitude preselect was engaged, as this was our SOP. Either I was mistaken or the leveloff function did not capture. The incident occurred during a time of high workload and while running the checklist.
