Narrative:
Inadvertently pushed back from gate with item open in logbook regarding coffeemaker that had overbrewed on previous flight. Called ZZZ maintenance for guidance. ZZZ maintenance advised since coffeemaker was not safety of flight item, and was not overbrewing now, turn off and have sfo maintenance fix. I specifically asked if that was ok and legal. They said, yes -- had had to do same thing in past before, was not safety related. I asked again, said I did not want to violate any rule. Again was informed no need for signoff as was not safety of flight or airworthiness item. I later wrote information to maintenance item in log to conform with section C of MEL preface. As coffeemaker is neither MEL/cdl or safety item, assume I complied correctly but am not sure.
