Narrative:
Location: 55 mi east of dfw. During climb out at dfw, flight attendants reported that a woman passenger had become unresponsive and was in a semi-conscious catatonic state. The woman had been observed taking a number of prescription drugs during the boarding process. We declared a medical emergency and returned to dfw where paramedics met the flight. The woman was idented as ms X. She was traveling with a young toddler. This same woman had made odd and abusive remarks towards the flight attendants during the boarding process. She made an alarming comment that she would get back at us during the flight for her perceived lack of help during the boarding process. I advised the ticket agent of this, and asked that they talk with her so as to evaluate her mental state suitability for flight. After a 10 min interview, the supervisor agent reported to me that ms X was ok and would be no problem for us. We landed 400 pounds above maximum landing weight. The aircraft was inspected, refueled, and we departed after only 30 mins at the gate. As ms X disembarked the aircraft, flight attendant yy overheard ms X stating to paramedics that she was currently being treated for psychological disorders.
