Narrative:
While climbing to 8000 ft I became distracted with the FMS waypoint and exceeded my altitude by 300 ft. Copilot was busy with departure control and missed altitude callout. To correct this, fly airplane first!

Title: CAPT OF AN MD87 OVERSHOT ALT DURING DEP CLB DUE TO DISTR OF PROGRAMMING FMS WAYPOINT. THE RPTR CORRECTED BACK AT ONCE WITH NO RPTED CONFLICT.
Narrative: WHILE CLBING TO 8000 FT I BECAME DISTRACTED WITH THE FMS WAYPOINT AND EXCEEDED MY ALT BY 300 FT. COPLT WAS BUSY WITH DEP CTL AND MISSED ALT CALLOUT. TO CORRECT THIS, FLY AIRPLANE FIRST!
