Narrative:

After landing runway 31C at mdw and ILS approach, tower said, 'hold short runway 4R stay with him' which copilot read back. After crossing runway 4L and holding short of runway 4R tower asked if we were still with him. We acknowledged and he said we crossed a runway with aircraft in position, runway 4L. We stated we all heard him say short of runway 4R stay with him, and this ended the conversation. We contacted ground and got clearance to the gate. In busy airports at busy times, controllers should have backups like pilots do, to check their work.

Title: FLC OF B727 ACCUSED OF TRANSGRESS OF RWY AFTER RECEIVING CLRNC TO HOLD SHORT OF SECOND PARALLEL RWY AT MDW.

Narrative: AFTER LNDG RWY 31C AT MDW AND ILS APCH, TWR SAID, 'HOLD SHORT RWY 4R STAY WITH HIM' WHICH COPLT READ BACK. AFTER XING RWY 4L AND HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 4R TWR ASKED IF WE WERE STILL WITH HIM. WE ACKNOWLEDGED AND HE SAID WE CROSSED A RWY WITH ACFT IN POS, RWY 4L. WE STATED WE ALL HEARD HIM SAY SHORT OF RWY 4R STAY WITH HIM, AND THIS ENDED THE CONVERSATION. WE CONTACTED GND AND GOT CLRNC TO THE GATE. IN BUSY ARPTS AT BUSY TIMES, CTLRS SHOULD HAVE BACKUPS LIKE PLTS DO, TO CHK THEIR WORK.
