Narrative:

Requested descent from FL330 to FL290 due to light chop. I noticed on my altimeter that we were passing through FL289 and descending still. I noticed the first officer's altimeter was set at 30.31, not 29.92 as required. When he reset his altimeter, we were 500 ft low, and immediately corrected to FL290. Problem was caused by not xchking altimeters passing through FL180 -- both of us being complacent.
