Narrative:

I took off from addison with an IFR climb clearance. I was cleared to several different altitudes, each successively higher with the goal of getting me clear of the dfw class B airspace and climbing to 15000 ft. The purpose of the flight was to check the operation of the turbo controller. I was currently cleared to 8000 ft on a heading of 360 degrees. At 8600 ft the ATC controller reminded me to maintain 8000 ft. I returned to 8000 ft as rapidly as possible. I was distraction by the need to monitor engine parameters. I should have carried a qualified person to monitor engine parameters so that I could concentrate on flying in such a busy environment. To my knowledge no traffic conflict occurred.
