Narrative:
Departed srq around XA30, IFR to vld. Arrived vld approximately XC30. (En route trip and approach uneventful.) departed vld around XD30, IFR to ags. At time of departure, ags WX reported at IFR minimums with some minor improvements in forecast at estimated time of arrival. Upon arrival at ags, WX was marginal IFR. Visibility 1 1/2 - 2 mi, fog, drizzling rain and darkness. Was unable to see runway on initial approach and executed missed approach. Upon executing second approach, still unable to see runway due to low ceiling, fog, rain and darkness. Executed second missed approach and due to WX conditions, inadvertently deviated from assigned altitude and heading. Then proceeded to cae hoping for better atmospheric conditions for landing. Upon arrival at cae, atmospheric WX conditions were IFR minimums due to fog, drizzling rain and darkness. Was unable to see runway on initial ILS approach. Executed missed approach and thereafter received radar vectors and landed on second approach. Correction action: will arrange for immediate remedial IFR training.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A PVT INST RATED PLT DEPARTED VLD TO AGS IN IMC. UNABLE TO LAND AT AGS THE ACFT INITIATED THE MISSED APCH AND DEVIATED FROM THE ALT AND HDG INSTRUCTIONS.
Narrative: DEPARTED SRQ AROUND XA30, IFR TO VLD. ARRIVED VLD APPROX XC30. (ENRTE TRIP AND APCH UNEVENTFUL.) DEPARTED VLD AROUND XD30, IFR TO AGS. AT TIME OF DEP, AGS WX RPTED AT IFR MINIMUMS WITH SOME MINOR IMPROVEMENTS IN FORECAST AT ESTIMATED TIME OF ARR. UPON ARR AT AGS, WX WAS MARGINAL IFR. VISIBILITY 1 1/2 - 2 MI, FOG, DRIZZLING RAIN AND DARKNESS. WAS UNABLE TO SEE RWY ON INITIAL APCH AND EXECUTED MISSED APCH. UPON EXECUTING SECOND APCH, STILL UNABLE TO SEE RWY DUE TO LOW CEILING, FOG, RAIN AND DARKNESS. EXECUTED SECOND MISSED APCH AND DUE TO WX CONDITIONS, INADVERTENTLY DEVIATED FROM ASSIGNED ALT AND HDG. THEN PROCEEDED TO CAE HOPING FOR BETTER ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS FOR LNDG. UPON ARR AT CAE, ATMOSPHERIC WX CONDITIONS WERE IFR MINIMUMS DUE TO FOG, DRIZZLING RAIN AND DARKNESS. WAS UNABLE TO SEE RWY ON INITIAL ILS APCH. EXECUTED MISSED APCH AND THEREAFTER RECEIVED RADAR VECTORS AND LANDED ON SECOND APCH. CORRECTION ACTION: WILL ARRANGE FOR IMMEDIATE REMEDIAL IFR TRAINING.
