Narrative:
ATC cleared us direct to rbv VOR. Entered direct to in apollo 2112 GPS. When we crossed over the VOR the GPS did not switch over to automatic route and track J230. Advised by ATC 5 mi south of airway. Wrote GPS up in logbook. Maintenance advised us that problem has occurred before. Aircraft equipped with only 1 GPS. Should have 2 for xchk.

Title: A GPS EQUIPPED DC8 FREIGHTER EXPERIENCES A DEV FROM ASSIGNED AIRSPACE, FLYING OFF THE DESIGNATED AIRWAY.
Narrative: ATC CLRED US DIRECT TO RBV VOR. ENTERED DIRECT TO IN APOLLO 2112 GPS. WHEN WE CROSSED OVER THE VOR THE GPS DID NOT SWITCH OVER TO AUTO RTE AND TRACK J230. ADVISED BY ATC 5 MI S OF AIRWAY. WROTE GPS UP IN LOGBOOK. MAINT ADVISED US THAT PROB HAS OCCURRED BEFORE. ACFT EQUIPPED WITH ONLY 1 GPS. SHOULD HAVE 2 FOR XCHK.
