Narrative:
Received takeoff clearance for runway 24. After passing V1, at rotation, both pilots noticed a light, civil helicopter taking off from a position to the left of runway 24. The helicopter continued its takeoff on a parallel track with our aircraft. At approximately 100-200 ft AGL, the helicopter and B737 were at co-altitudes and had approximately 300 ft of horizontal spacing. Tower was contacted and advised that the spacing/separation seemed fairly close. Tower responded that the helicopter was directed to turn left after takeoff (away from B737 takeoff path), and did not comply.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737 DEPARTING ISP HAS AN NMAC WITH A DEPARTING, CLBING HELI THAT WAS GIVEN TKOF CLRNC THE SAME TIME AS THE B737.
Narrative: RECEIVED TKOF CLRNC FOR RWY 24. AFTER PASSING V1, AT ROTATION, BOTH PLTS NOTICED A LIGHT, CIVIL HELI TAKING OFF FROM A POS TO THE L OF RWY 24. THE HELI CONTINUED ITS TKOF ON A PARALLEL TRACK WITH OUR ACFT. AT APPROX 100-200 FT AGL, THE HELI AND B737 WERE AT CO-ALTS AND HAD APPROX 300 FT OF HORIZ SPACING. TWR WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE SPACING/SEPARATION SEEMED FAIRLY CLOSE. TWR RESPONDED THAT THE HELI WAS DIRECTED TO TURN L AFTER TKOF (AWAY FROM B737 TKOF PATH), AND DID NOT COMPLY.
