Narrative:
Lead aircraft X on downwind was slowed to 180 KTS by previous controller. Trailing aircraft Y was at 250 KTS. Both descending to 7000 ft on downwind leg. Conflict alert went off. I then descended leading aircraft X and turned trailing aircraft Y to a 30 degree diverging heading.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACFT Y WAS NOT GIVEN SPD REDUCTION AND SUBSEQUENTLY OVERTOOK ACFT X. RPTR TRIED TO SEPARATE ACFT, BUT TOO LATE, SEPARATION WAS LOST.
