Narrative:

While flying the pullman arrival into ord, we began to look over the ATIS information. ATIS was showing that ord was landing runways 9L&right. We briefed runway 9L because this is the normal runway used for landing when approaching ord from the pullman arrival and runway 9L&right are the ord landing runways. When checking in with ord approach, we do not remember if we were assigned runway 9L, but believe so since a runway 9R assignment would have gotten our attention. Once on downwind, we were given a tight turn on to intercept what we thought was runway 9L. After rolling out on runway 9L final, approach asked what runway we were lined up on. We said runway 9L, and they asked if we had runway 9R in sight. We said yes, and they cleared us for a visual to runway 9R. We informed tower that we thought we were cleared the runway 9L approach. The rest of the approach and landing to runway 9R was without incident. We are not 100% sure we were given runway 9L, but we feel the short turn-on enhanced this belief. We were also given a long drawn out clearance that might have taken our attention away from the assigned runway. We feel that a clearance this long should be broken up so emphasis can be put on the cleared runway. Also, if we ever read back the wrong runway, it was not brought to our attention.

Title: AN AIRLINE FLC IN A TWIN ENG JET ASSUMED THAT THEY HAD RECEIVED A CLRNC TO RWY 9L SINCE THAT WAS THE RWY THAT THEY HAD USED A NUMBER OF TIMES BEFORE WHEN PERFORMING THE PULLMAN 4 ARR, BUT NOT THIS TIME. THE APCH CTLR MADE A TIMELY CORRECTION.

Narrative: WHILE FLYING THE PULLMAN ARR INTO ORD, WE BEGAN TO LOOK OVER THE ATIS INFO. ATIS WAS SHOWING THAT ORD WAS LNDG RWYS 9L&R. WE BRIEFED RWY 9L BECAUSE THIS IS THE NORMAL RWY USED FOR LNDG WHEN APCHING ORD FROM THE PULLMAN ARR AND RWY 9L&R ARE THE ORD LNDG RWYS. WHEN CHKING IN WITH ORD APCH, WE DO NOT REMEMBER IF WE WERE ASSIGNED RWY 9L, BUT BELIEVE SO SINCE A RWY 9R ASSIGNMENT WOULD HAVE GOTTEN OUR ATTN. ONCE ON DOWNWIND, WE WERE GIVEN A TIGHT TURN ON TO INTERCEPT WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS RWY 9L. AFTER ROLLING OUT ON RWY 9L FINAL, APCH ASKED WHAT RWY WE WERE LINED UP ON. WE SAID RWY 9L, AND THEY ASKED IF WE HAD RWY 9R IN SIGHT. WE SAID YES, AND THEY CLRED US FOR A VISUAL TO RWY 9R. WE INFORMED TWR THAT WE THOUGHT WE WERE CLRED THE RWY 9L APCH. THE REST OF THE APCH AND LNDG TO RWY 9R WAS WITHOUT INCIDENT. WE ARE NOT 100% SURE WE WERE GIVEN RWY 9L, BUT WE FEEL THE SHORT TURN-ON ENHANCED THIS BELIEF. WE WERE ALSO GIVEN A LONG DRAWN OUT CLRNC THAT MIGHT HAVE TAKEN OUR ATTN AWAY FROM THE ASSIGNED RWY. WE FEEL THAT A CLRNC THIS LONG SHOULD BE BROKEN UP SO EMPHASIS CAN BE PUT ON THE CLRED RWY. ALSO, IF WE EVER READ BACK THE WRONG RWY, IT WAS NOT BROUGHT TO OUR ATTN.
