Narrative:
Flight of 8 hour duration with 2 gas stops. Established on localizer D at san diego gillespie. GPS went out, pilot fatigue, autoplt out. Put heading bug and VOR selector to wrong radial. Descended below IFR approach altitude (still in VFR conditions). Socal noted llw (gpw) at their station and notified me. Continued VFR below to next stepdown, missed localizer D to south by 3 dos. Out of overcast, below VFR, socal advised me to climb but airport in sight. Factors: I arose at early morning. Flight time total from mazatlan, mexico to san diego approximately 8 hours. Fatigue, equipment failure (non essential). Continued on approach after socal advised below IFR minimums.
