Narrative:
Departing the air carrier ramp at grr, we were cleared to turn left on taxiway D, taxi to runway 26L. This route crosses runway 17/35. By receiving the clearance to taxi to runway 26L we were automatically cleared to cross runways en route. Prior to beginning taxi, I had verified with my copilot that both of us had heard the same clearance and were in agreement on what we heard. On taxiway D, passing the hold short line for runway 17/35, ground control asked if we were going to hold short of the runway. There was no urgency in his voice. I slammed on the brakes and stopped before entering the runway. At this point we saw a buisiness jet discontinuing a landing approach to runway 35. Tower gave him climb out instructions. We were cleared to continue taxi to runway 26L. We continued to runway 26L, took off and flew to our destination without further event. At our destination, I did call back to the tower at grr and spoke with the ground controller. He said that he had in fact cleared us to taxi to runway 26L from the parking ramp just as we thought and that there had been some miscoord between him and the tower controller. Even clrncs don't ensure that there will be no conflict. Controllers make mistakes too. The price of safety is continuous vigilance and verification.

Title: TWR GND CTLR STOPPED MD88 TAXI OUT AT INTERSECTING RWY DUE TO CTLR ERROR.
Narrative: DEPARTING THE ACR RAMP AT GRR, WE WERE CLRED TO TURN L ON TXWY D, TAXI TO RWY 26L. THIS RTE CROSSES RWY 17/35. BY RECEIVING THE CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 26L WE WERE AUTOMATICALLY CLRED TO CROSS RWYS ENRTE. PRIOR TO BEGINNING TAXI, I HAD VERIFIED WITH MY COPLT THAT BOTH OF US HAD HEARD THE SAME CLRNC AND WERE IN AGREEMENT ON WHAT WE HEARD. ON TXWY D, PASSING THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 17/35, GND CTL ASKED IF WE WERE GOING TO HOLD SHORT OF THE RWY. THERE WAS NO URGENCY IN HIS VOICE. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND STOPPED BEFORE ENTERING THE RWY. AT THIS POINT WE SAW A BUISINESS JET DISCONTINUING A LNDG APCH TO RWY 35. TWR GAVE HIM CLBOUT INSTRUCTIONS. WE WERE CLRED TO CONTINUE TAXI TO RWY 26L. WE CONTINUED TO RWY 26L, TOOK OFF AND FLEW TO OUR DEST WITHOUT FURTHER EVENT. AT OUR DEST, I DID CALL BACK TO THE TWR AT GRR AND SPOKE WITH THE GND CTLR. HE SAID THAT HE HAD IN FACT CLRED US TO TAXI TO RWY 26L FROM THE PARKING RAMP JUST AS WE THOUGHT AND THAT THERE HAD BEEN SOME MISCOORD BTWN HIM AND THE TWR CTLR. EVEN CLRNCS DON'T ENSURE THAT THERE WILL BE NO CONFLICT. CTLRS MAKE MISTAKES TOO. THE PRICE OF SAFETY IS CONTINUOUS VIGILANCE AND VERIFICATION.
