Narrative:

Feb/xa/99 XA40, flew a local pleasure flight around the western coachella valley area (palm springs, ca). Practiced numerous (4) touch-and-goes at trm airport, practiced raising and lowering the landing gear each time. Continued sightseeing on the way back to palm springs. Climbed to 6500 ft over the mountains and entered downwind (of course, after contacting ATIS and approach) per the tower's instructions leveling out at pattern altitude. I put the gear down and proceeded to turn base, final, and touchdown with a beautiful landing. My propeller splintered and I rolled to a stop. My gear was not down. I had landed gear up (with my plane, the YAK50, when the gear is up the wheels still protrude 1/2 way out of the wheel well). I thought I had put the gear down -- it appears I did not. Plane damage: propeller splintered, air intake bent, nothing else.
