Narrative:
We were cleared into position and hold. We continued through the checklist and the PF said we were cleared for takeoff. I, at that moment, wasn't sure. He was confident we were and pushed the power up. We started rolling and I queried ATC about takeoff clearance. At this point we were probably about 200 ft down the 7000 ft runway. ATC's response was something like, 'well, you weren't, but I guess you are now -- cleared for takeoff.' I read back, 'cleared for takeoff' and we continued uneventfully. This was a classic case of bad CRM. I should have queried the PF and ATC before we got that far. There is no reason for a mistake of that nature to have been made.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: C550 PIC QUESTIONS FO PERCEPTION OF RECEIVING TKOF CLRNC WHEN FO APPLIES PWR. PIC ASKS TWR, WHO ADVISES 'YOU WEREN'T.' TKOF CLRNC RECEIVED AS C550 IS ROLLING DOWN THE RWY.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD. WE CONTINUED THROUGH THE CHKLIST AND THE PF SAID WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. I, AT THAT MOMENT, WASN'T SURE. HE WAS CONFIDENT WE WERE AND PUSHED THE PWR UP. WE STARTED ROLLING AND I QUERIED ATC ABOUT TKOF CLRNC. AT THIS POINT WE WERE PROBABLY ABOUT 200 FT DOWN THE 7000 FT RWY. ATC'S RESPONSE WAS SOMETHING LIKE, 'WELL, YOU WEREN'T, BUT I GUESS YOU ARE NOW -- CLRED FOR TKOF.' I READ BACK, 'CLRED FOR TKOF' AND WE CONTINUED UNEVENTFULLY. THIS WAS A CLASSIC CASE OF BAD CRM. I SHOULD HAVE QUERIED THE PF AND ATC BEFORE WE GOT THAT FAR. THERE IS NO REASON FOR A MISTAKE OF THAT NATURE TO HAVE BEEN MADE.
