Narrative:
While on visual approach to tpa runway 35L, we were given a visual approach with a restr of '2600 ft til north of macdill AFB.' passing north of macdill, we started a visual descent to runway 35L when approach control questioned our altitude. He said we were entering macdill traffic pattern. He intended us to maintain 2600 ft til northwest of macdill, although his instructions were '2600 ft til north of macdill.' supplemental information from acn 429331: once on ground, the ground controller asked us to call approach.

Narrative: WHILE ON VISUAL APCH TO TPA RWY 35L, WE WERE GIVEN A VISUAL APCH WITH A RESTR OF '2600 FT TIL N OF MACDILL AFB.' PASSING N OF MACDILL, WE STARTED A VISUAL DSCNT TO RWY 35L WHEN APCH CTL QUESTIONED OUR ALT. HE SAID WE WERE ENTERING MACDILL TFC PATTERN. HE INTENDED US TO MAINTAIN 2600 FT TIL NW OF MACDILL, ALTHOUGH HIS INSTRUCTIONS WERE '2600 FT TIL N OF MACDILL.' SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 429331: ONCE ON GND, THE GND CTLR ASKED US TO CALL APCH.
