Narrative:
En route from clt to mlb during cruise at FL230 (best recollection) afternoon thunderstorms encountered. Center controller was advised we would need to deviate for WX. Controller cleared us to deviate east of the buildups and then proceed direct jacksonville and ormond beach, fl. Later a controller us to proceed direct jacksonville, stating we had entered a warning area. He said we were not cleared to deviate, but our clearance was direct jacksonville, then ormond beach. I don't know if a controller change or frequency change at ZJX caused our clearance not to be properly passed to new controller. Controller seemed to think we had inadvertently entered the warning area on our own.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR ACFT ENTERS A WARNING AREA WHILE DEVIATING WX. HAD ASKED FOR PERMISSION FROM ARTCC CTLR TO DEVIATE AND THAT WAS GRANTED.
Narrative: ENRTE FROM CLT TO MLB DURING CRUISE AT FL230 (BEST RECOLLECTION) AFTERNOON TSTMS ENCOUNTERED. CENTER CTLR WAS ADVISED WE WOULD NEED TO DEVIATE FOR WX. CTLR CLRED US TO DEVIATE E OF THE BUILDUPS AND THEN PROCEED DIRECT JACKSONVILLE AND ORMOND BEACH, FL. LATER A CTLR US TO PROCEED DIRECT JACKSONVILLE, STATING WE HAD ENTERED A WARNING AREA. HE SAID WE WERE NOT CLRED TO DEVIATE, BUT OUR CLRNC WAS DIRECT JACKSONVILLE, THEN ORMOND BEACH. I DON'T KNOW IF A CTLR CHANGE OR FREQ CHANGE AT ZJX CAUSED OUR CLRNC NOT TO BE PROPERLY PASSED TO NEW CTLR. CTLR SEEMED TO THINK WE HAD INADVERTENTLY ENTERED THE WARNING AREA ON OUR OWN.
