Narrative:
On the cetus arrival, landing dtw and descending from FL180, ATC issued clearance to cross cetus intersection at 12000 ft and to maintain at least 2000 FPM rate of descent until that altitude. As a result, the PF (first officer) overshot 12000 ft by approximately 250 ft before immediately (with help from the captain) correcting back to 12000 ft. ATC advised altitude was low but we were already back to and level at 12000 ft. Factors contributing were: 1) a 'rushed' clearance from ATC (maintain at least 2000 FPM). 2) first officer's relative newness to the aircraft (40 hours).

Title: AN ACR CREW OPERATING A B727 ENRTE DTW AND CLRED FOR THE CETUS 2 ARR OVERSHOT THEIR ASSIGNED ALT BY 500 FT.
Narrative: ON THE CETUS ARR, LNDG DTW AND DSNDING FROM FL180, ATC ISSUED CLRNC TO CROSS CETUS INTXN AT 12000 FT AND TO MAINTAIN AT LEAST 2000 FPM RATE OF DSCNT UNTIL THAT ALT. AS A RESULT, THE PF (FO) OVERSHOT 12000 FT BY APPROX 250 FT BEFORE IMMEDIATELY (WITH HELP FROM THE CAPT) CORRECTING BACK TO 12000 FT. ATC ADVISED ALT WAS LOW BUT WE WERE ALREADY BACK TO AND LEVEL AT 12000 FT. FACTORS CONTRIBUTING WERE: 1) A 'RUSHED' CLRNC FROM ATC (MAINTAIN AT LEAST 2000 FPM). 2) FO'S RELATIVE NEWNESS TO THE ACFT (40 HRS).
