Narrative:
We departed eqy VFR to pick up our IFR clearance airborne. We climbed and circled north through southwest trying to pick up our clearance. While we were maneuvering, we established communication with clt approach. When we did, they immediately had us turn right to a heading I can't recall. We apparently were about to penetrate their class B airspace. It is my contention that we did not, however, came real close to doing so. I believe in our attempt to pick up our IFR clearance, our maneuvering to stay VMC during a busy phase of flight had the direct result of this flight nearly encroaching on clt class B airspace. It is also my utmost belief that crew coordination and 100% situational awareness is needed to keep sits like this from recurring.

Title: WHILE CIRCLING UNDER VFR AND ATTEMPTING TO OBTAIN AN IFR CLRNC, A CPR JET CREW ALMOST ENTERS CLASS B AIRSPACE. AN ALERT CTLR VECTORS THEM TO A SAFE AREA.
Narrative: WE DEPARTED EQY VFR TO PICK UP OUR IFR CLRNC AIRBORNE. WE CLBED AND CIRCLED N THROUGH SW TRYING TO PICK UP OUR CLRNC. WHILE WE WERE MANEUVERING, WE ESTABLISHED COM WITH CLT APCH. WHEN WE DID, THEY IMMEDIATELY HAD US TURN R TO A HDG I CAN'T RECALL. WE APPARENTLY WERE ABOUT TO PENETRATE THEIR CLASS B AIRSPACE. IT IS MY CONTENTION THAT WE DID NOT, HOWEVER, CAME REAL CLOSE TO DOING SO. I BELIEVE IN OUR ATTEMPT TO PICK UP OUR IFR CLRNC, OUR MANEUVERING TO STAY VMC DURING A BUSY PHASE OF FLT HAD THE DIRECT RESULT OF THIS FLT NEARLY ENCROACHING ON CLT CLASS B AIRSPACE. IT IS ALSO MY UTMOST BELIEF THAT CREW COORD AND 100% SITUATIONAL AWARENESS IS NEEDED TO KEEP SITS LIKE THIS FROM RECURRING.
