Narrative:
About 1 hour from landing in bur, the #2 flight attendant came into the cockpit. She claimed that there was a faint chemical odor near the center section of the main cabin. I told her to let us know if it got any stronger or if she could locate a source. It was then discovered that a woman from mty, mexico, had brought on board a bottle (950 ml) containing a clear liquid labeled 'eter solfurico.' the woman spoke very little english, but told the flight attendant that it was ether. I told the flight attendant that since there was no spillage or strong odor that we would continue on to bur and let the agents there help. Landed in bur and had a spanish speaking agent tell the woman that this was a possible hazmat. The woman let us examine the liquid and told us she brought it in from mty through dallas. The liquid smelled more like rubbing alcohol. I am wondering how this passenger made it through security in mty and customs in dallas with this material.
