Narrative:
Misunderstood clearance to cross bucko intersection at FL250. In previous 4 weeks this clearance had not been given. Was on jansen arrival to iad and thought had been given the 'expect clearance for 25 NM out at FL250 as with previous flts. Right above this is a reference to bucko. Bucko intersection is actually 14 NM west of this point. Arrival STAR is confusing. No conflict. Was not notified by ZOB of our error. ZDC told us on radio change over. ZDC advised no conflict (made the 25 NM at FL250 crossing) and on asking advised that ZOB sometime gives FL250 at bucko. Problem arose with confusing instructions and depiction's on jansen STAR. Also, pilots 'familiarity' with route and previous descent instructions over prior weeks. Clarification of STAR to include a note that bucko will/may be given as a crossing point. Supplemental information from acn 430413: a review of the arrival chart confirmed that bucko is 39 DME from kessel VOR, not 25 DME as we had thought. Narrative: MISUNDERSTOOD CLRNC TO CROSS BUCKO INTXN AT FL250. IN PREVIOUS 4 WKS THIS CLRNC HAD NOT BEEN GIVEN. WAS ON JANSEN ARR TO IAD AND THOUGHT HAD BEEN GIVEN THE 'EXPECT CLRNC FOR 25 NM OUT AT FL250 AS WITH PREVIOUS FLTS. RIGHT ABOVE THIS IS A REF TO BUCKO. BUCKO INTXN IS ACTUALLY 14 NM W OF THIS POINT.
