Narrative:

Nearing the point of departure at ord airport runway 27R, I was notified by flight attendants that they had discovered a passenger owned portable oxygen bottle that had been allowed on board the aircraft by chicago boarding personnel. I did not have information at that time as to how or why it had been brought on board or whether it was full or empty. The conditions were urgent and congested, so I therefore elected to continue the departure and flight to phx. Upon arrival at the destination, ground personnel were advised of the situation and an irregularity report was filed.
