FL230, ATC facility: chicago. Svm 270 degree radial, 80 DME. In severe turbulence, deviated 500 ft above assigned altitude. No one was injured. Flight attendants reported they were airborne but did not hit the ceiling.

Narrative: FL230, ATC FACILITY: CHICAGO. SVM 270 DEG RADIAL, 80 DME. IN SEVERE TURB, DEVIATED 500 FT ABOVE ASSIGNED ALT. NO ONE WAS INJURED. FLT ATTENDANTS RPTED THEY WERE AIRBORNE BUT DID NOT HIT THE CEILING.
