Narrative:
ATC facility: ZFW. Location: 17 NM east of tqa on jen arrival. At FL330 just past tqa on the jen arrival, we were given a descent to FL280. As PNF, I set FL280 in the altitude alert window, acknowledged the descent with ATC, and pointed to the new altitude in the altitude alert window. The captain acknowledged the descent verbally and began a 1000 FPM descent in vertical speed mode. Soon thereafter, we received a TA from the TCASII which showed an aircraft 1500 ft below us at our 11 O'clock position. The captain immediately leveled off, as I reconfirmed our descent from ATC. ATC issued an immediate right turn to heading 180 degrees and a climb back to FL330. The TCASII showed our closest approach to the other aircraft to be 1200 ft. Both aircraft had each other in sight. ATC said that this was a near miss and would be reported. Supplemental information from acn 430985: we both heard the FL280 call.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A DSNDING S80 HAS A POTENTIAL CONFLICT WITH ANOTHER ACFT WHILE ON AN AMENDED ALT CHANGE FROM ATC ON THE JEN 5 ARR INTO DFW, TX.
Narrative: ATC FACILITY: ZFW. LOCATION: 17 NM E OF TQA ON JEN ARR. AT FL330 JUST PAST TQA ON THE JEN ARR, WE WERE GIVEN A DSCNT TO FL280. AS PNF, I SET FL280 IN THE ALT ALERT WINDOW, ACKNOWLEDGED THE DSCNT WITH ATC, AND POINTED TO THE NEW ALT IN THE ALT ALERT WINDOW. THE CAPT ACKNOWLEDGED THE DSCNT VERBALLY AND BEGAN A 1000 FPM DSCNT IN VERT SPD MODE. SOON THEREAFTER, WE RECEIVED A TA FROM THE TCASII WHICH SHOWED AN ACFT 1500 FT BELOW US AT OUR 11 O'CLOCK POS. THE CAPT IMMEDIATELY LEVELED OFF, AS I RECONFIRMED OUR DSCNT FROM ATC. ATC ISSUED AN IMMEDIATE R TURN TO HDG 180 DEGS AND A CLB BACK TO FL330. THE TCASII SHOWED OUR CLOSEST APCH TO THE OTHER ACFT TO BE 1200 FT. BOTH ACFT HAD EACH OTHER IN SIGHT. ATC SAID THAT THIS WAS A NEAR MISS AND WOULD BE RPTED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 430985: WE BOTH HEARD THE FL280 CALL.
