Narrative:
Departing dca, our clearance was radar vectors to paleo intersection, as filed. Dca departure procedure (prohibited area P56 avoidance procedures) notes both northwest and northeast departures. Both paleo and our destination airport, ewr, are to the northeast of dca, therefore we planned and executed a right turn and successfully avoided P56. The tower controller directed us to 'expedite' our turn, and nothing more was said.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: E145 CREW CONCERNED ABOUT CTLR'S REMARK DURING CLB IN DCA AIRSPACE.
Narrative: DEPARTING DCA, OUR CLRNC WAS RADAR VECTORS TO PALEO INTXN, AS FILED. DCA DEP PROC (PROHIBITED AREA P56 AVOIDANCE PROCS) NOTES BOTH NW AND NE DEPS. BOTH PALEO AND OUR DEST ARPT, EWR, ARE TO THE NE OF DCA, THEREFORE WE PLANNED AND EXECUTED A R TURN AND SUCCESSFULLY AVOIDED P56. THE TWR CTLR DIRECTED US TO 'EXPEDITE' OUR TURN, AND NOTHING MORE WAS SAID.
