Narrative:

We were given takeoff clearance on runway 26L followed by a heading which I did not hear. I asked for them to say again heading at MM, they said nothing but captain said 280 degrees. We proceeded and did 280 degrees at MM. Shortly after that, they asked what heading we were on. We responded with 280 degree heading. Then issued a heading to the north. Clarifying from the tower instead of inside the cockpit would have avoided any question of a problem.
