Narrative:

On mar/xa/99 while taxiing from commuter parking at dca (ronald reagan washington national airport) I was issued taxi instructions for runway 36. As I taxied out, I inadvertently took taxiway south and crossed the hold short line for runway 15/33. At the same time, dca ground controller told me to stop taxi and to make a hard right turn onto taxiway north. Although I never made it onto the runway, I still crossed the hold short line. Dca ground never said another word and I continued to runway 36 via txwys north and J. Contributing factors behind this unintentional runway incursion are from personal problems in my life. I was at the time unable to put them aside and had my mind in another place, when I should have been concentrating on the safety of the taxiing and the welfare of my crew and passenger. Corrective actions: informed my first officer what was going on (ie, divorce) and to pay extra attention to instructions given by ATC and to inform me of any information or instructions that I may have missed. The remainder of the day was uneventful and I was able to clear my head and concentrate on my job.

AS I TAXIED OUT, I INADVERTENTLY TOOK TXWY S AND CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 15/33. AT THE SAME TIME, DCA GND CTLR TOLD ME TO STOP TAXI AND TO MAKE A HARD R TURN ONTO TXWY N. ALTHOUGH I NEVER MADE IT ONTO THE RWY, I STILL CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE. DCA GND NEVER SAID ANOTHER WORD AND I CONTINUED TO RWY 36 VIA TXWYS N AND J. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS BEHIND THIS UNINTENTIONAL RWY INCURSION ARE FROM PERSONAL PROBS IN MY LIFE. I WAS AT THE TIME UNABLE TO PUT THEM ASIDE AND HAD MY MIND IN ANOTHER PLACE, WHEN I SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONCENTRATING ON THE SAFETY OF THE TAXIING AND THE WELFARE OF MY CREW AND PAX. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS: INFORMED MY FO WHAT WAS GOING ON (IE, DIVORCE) AND TO PAY EXTRA ATTN TO INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN BY ATC AND TO INFORM ME OF ANY INFO OR INSTRUCTIONS THAT I MAY HAVE MISSED. THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY WAS UNEVENTFUL AND I WAS ABLE TO CLR MY HEAD AND CONCENTRATE ON MY JOB.
