Narrative:
We were handed off late by ZDC to roa approach. On our first transmission to roa approach, we reported airport in sight. We were at 11000 ft, 22 mi from roa airport. ATIS was reporting active runway 15 with winds 150 degrees at 12 KTS. Roa approach cleared us for a visual runway 15. We were handed off to roa tower and were cleared to land runway 15 by roa tower. Normal landing. Problem: runway 15 not authority/authorized to land. Company restr, not a far restr. Chain of events: first time into roa airport. ATIS reported active runway 15 only. Approach cleared us for visual runway 15. Tower cleared us to land runway 15. Human performance: airport in sight 40 mi out. Completed preliminary landing checklist. Reviewed airport advisory pages. Reviewed runway 15 pictorial page which includes the following statement -- 'lndgs on runway 15 are not authority/authorized at night or IFR conditions.' (our landing was day VFR.) missed remark on advisory page (runway 15 not authority/authorized to land). Possible corrective action: remark should be highlighted and in bold print.
