Narrative:

Failure to properly set directional gyro in airplane caused me to fly a heading other than assigned by tower and continued with the departure controller. I believe the cause of the problem was my failure to complete a pretkof check prior to departure. In the future, I will align the directional gyro with runway heading prior to beginning the takeoff roll.

Title: A PART 135 CHARTER PLT FLIES THE WRONG HDGS FOR TWR AND DEP CTL WHEN HE FORGETS TO SET HIS DIRECTIONAL GYRO PRIOR TO TKOF AT EVV, IN.

Narrative: FAILURE TO PROPERLY SET DIRECTIONAL GYRO IN AIRPLANE CAUSED ME TO FLY A HDG OTHER THAN ASSIGNED BY TWR AND CONTINUED WITH THE DEP CTLR. I BELIEVE THE CAUSE OF THE PROB WAS MY FAILURE TO COMPLETE A PRETKOF CHK PRIOR TO DEP. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL ALIGN THE DIRECTIONAL GYRO WITH RWY HDG PRIOR TO BEGINNING THE TKOF ROLL.
