Narrative:
On final approach, I got distraction and neglected to switch to tower frequency. Approach control cleared us for the approach and told us to contact tower at the marker. All checklists complete but we did not get a clearance to land. Supplemental information from acn 432149: told to switch to tower at FAF (approximately 20 NM from FAF at the time). Never did. Landed at ord without landing clearance. Cause of problem: high workload phase of flight with delayed frequency change. Prevention: have aircraft change frequency when given the change, not 10 mins later, to include delaying frequency change call until ready for aircraft to switch.

Title: AN ACR ACFT LANDS WITHOUT LNDG CLRNC WHILE STILL ON APCH CTL FREQ AT ORD, IL.
Narrative: ON FINAL APCH, I GOT DISTR AND NEGLECTED TO SWITCH TO TWR FREQ. APCH CTL CLRED US FOR THE APCH AND TOLD US TO CONTACT TWR AT THE MARKER. ALL CHKLISTS COMPLETE BUT WE DID NOT GET A CLRNC TO LAND. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 432149: TOLD TO SWITCH TO TWR AT FAF (APPROX 20 NM FROM FAF AT THE TIME). NEVER DID. LANDED AT ORD WITHOUT LNDG CLRNC. CAUSE OF PROB: HIGH WORKLOAD PHASE OF FLT WITH DELAYED FREQ CHANGE. PREVENTION: HAVE ACFT CHANGE FREQ WHEN GIVEN THE CHANGE, NOT 10 MINS LATER, TO INCLUDE DELAYING FREQ CHANGE CALL UNTIL READY FOR ACFT TO SWITCH.
