Narrative:
After being placed in runway 22L hold box, we were cleared to taxi into position and hold on runway 22L. There was a sign directly ahead that was labeled runway 22L, and I was unable to see a taxiway onto the runway further down. So we started to taxi into position via intersection Q instead of full length. We realized it, as did tower, and asked tower to allow us to back taxi down the runway for full length. They cleared us to back taxi and we took off with no known disruptions of other traffic. Good backup of tower personnel.
