Narrative:
Clearance from ptk was pontiac 8 departure, tycob, direct eri (destination). Tower controller stated 'cleared for takeoff, runway 27L.' I acknowledged, 'cleared for takeoff, runway 27L.' the SID states 'runways 27L/right and climb runway heading to 1400 ft before turning. Thence departure via vectors to join the assigned airway or radial, then proceed to the assigned departure fix, then via assigned route.' we (crew) departed ptk, out of 1400 ft, we turned to tycob and continued to climb to 3000 ft. Tower controller then asked if we were on frequency. I responded roger and was told to turn immediately to 090 degree heading and that he had given us runway heading, contact departure on 124.9. Departure requested we call landline and thanked another pilot for his quick turn. I did not catch type or tail number. Tower controller had not given us runway heading, otherwise we would have complied with that instruction rather than following SID.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: DEV FROM CLRNC BY RPTR CAUSED A POTENTIAL TFC CONFLICT WHICH WAS HANDLED BY ATC.
Narrative: CLRNC FROM PTK WAS PONTIAC 8 DEP, TYCOB, DIRECT ERI (DEST). TWR CTLR STATED 'CLRED FOR TKOF, RWY 27L.' I ACKNOWLEDGED, 'CLRED FOR TKOF, RWY 27L.' THE SID STATES 'RWYS 27L/R AND CLB RWY HDG TO 1400 FT BEFORE TURNING. THENCE DEP VIA VECTORS TO JOIN THE ASSIGNED AIRWAY OR RADIAL, THEN PROCEED TO THE ASSIGNED DEP FIX, THEN VIA ASSIGNED RTE.' WE (CREW) DEPARTED PTK, OUT OF 1400 FT, WE TURNED TO TYCOB AND CONTINUED TO CLB TO 3000 FT. TWR CTLR THEN ASKED IF WE WERE ON FREQ. I RESPONDED ROGER AND WAS TOLD TO TURN IMMEDIATELY TO 090 DEG HDG AND THAT HE HAD GIVEN US RWY HDG, CONTACT DEP ON 124.9. DEP REQUESTED WE CALL LANDLINE AND THANKED ANOTHER PLT FOR HIS QUICK TURN. I DID NOT CATCH TYPE OR TAIL NUMBER. TWR CTLR HAD NOT GIVEN US RWY HDG, OTHERWISE WE WOULD HAVE COMPLIED WITH THAT INSTRUCTION RATHER THAN FOLLOWING SID.
