Narrative:
Passenger was rude through entire flight. He would not listen to crew instruction (stow carry on luggage). He and his wife both entered the lavatory together and smoked cigarettes. I warned him that smoking was not allowed. He got upset and later broke the armrest from seat. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that the customer refused to stow his bag after the plane had left the gate. The passenger and his wife were drinking from their own liquor, as well as the airline's liquor when the flight attendant took their private supply away. That's when they became belligerent and went into the lavatory together and smoked, but did not set off the smoke alarm. Later, in a rage, the passenger broke the armrest. 30 mins from landing, the purser tried to get the captain to have auths meet the airplane and arrest the man. The captain rptedly said, 'that it wasn't a good idea at this time,' and suggested that maybe the passenger would calm down after landing. The reporter called for auths to arrest the passenger, but the proper auths eventually released the man at the gate, without charging him. The reporter was outraged by this lack of enforcement of FARS by the captain and the auths.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLT ATTENDANT RPTED AN UNRULY, INTOXICATED AND NON COMPLIANT PAX AND WIFE BROKE SAFETY FARS AND DELIBERATELY BROKE SEAT'S ARMREST.
Narrative: PAX WAS RUDE THROUGH ENTIRE FLT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THAT THE CUSTOMER REFUSED TO STOW HIS BAG AFTER THE PLANE HAD LEFT THE GATE. THE PAX AND HIS WIFE WERE DRINKING FROM THEIR OWN LIQUOR, AS WELL AS THE AIRLINE'S LIQUOR WHEN THE FLT ATTENDANT TOOK THEIR PVT SUPPLY AWAY. THAT'S WHEN THEY BECAME BELLIGERENT AND WENT INTO THE LAVATORY TOGETHER AND SMOKED, BUT DID NOT SET OFF THE SMOKE ALARM. LATER, IN A RAGE, THE PAX BROKE THE ARMREST. 30 MINS FROM LNDG, THE PURSER TRIED TO GET THE CAPT TO HAVE AUTHS MEET THE AIRPLANE AND ARREST THE MAN. THE CAPT RPTEDLY SAID, 'THAT IT WASN'T A GOOD IDEA AT THIS TIME,' AND SUGGESTED THAT MAYBE THE PAX WOULD CALM DOWN AFTER LNDG. THE RPTR CALLED FOR AUTHS TO ARREST THE PAX, BUT THE PROPER AUTHS EVENTUALLY RELEASED THE MAN AT THE GATE, WITHOUT CHARGING HIM. THE RPTR WAS OUTRAGED BY THIS LACK OF ENFORCEMENT OF FARS BY THE CAPT AND THE AUTHS.
