Narrative:

I was preparing to start aircraft for 6TH and final leg of an air ambulance flight after having unloaded patient at the hospital. The other crew member (flight nurse) removed something from the baggage compartment. After a normal departure from the hospital helipad and climb to cruise, dispatch advised us someone on the ground saw something fall to the ground. Upon landing we observed the baggage compartment door had not been properly latched and a small tool kit was missing. It was later recovered without damage or injury to anyone on the surface.
