Narrative:
Before departure, I noted significant snow on the top of our wing. We pushed off the gate and were deiced by contract personnel, type I followed by type iv. Just before deice was complete the snow fall stopped and there was no subsequent precipitation on the airplane. During climb the #1 flight attendant came up and said that an off duty captain wanted to speak to me. He came to the cockpit and informed me that we had a significant amount of clear ice on the wings of the aircraft, outboard of the heater blankets. The aircraft was performing normally and we continued to dfw where the ice peeled off on descent into warmer air. I requested dfw maintenance inspect the engines for possible FOD although I believe the heater blankets prevented this. Without them it is quite possible that we could have fodded out both engines with ice. I don't have a copy of deicer's name. Holdover time began at XA11Z, off at XA40 with no precipitation after deice. Obviously we need a more rigorous inspection of the wing after deicing.

Title: AN ACR MD80 FLC DISCOVERED INFLT THAT THEY HAD ICE ON THE UPPER SURFACE OF THE WING, OUTBOARD OF THE WING HEATERS, EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE PROPERLY DEICED BEFORE TKOF.
Narrative: BEFORE DEP, I NOTED SIGNIFICANT SNOW ON THE TOP OF OUR WING. WE PUSHED OFF THE GATE AND WERE DEICED BY CONTRACT PERSONNEL, TYPE I FOLLOWED BY TYPE IV. JUST BEFORE DEICE WAS COMPLETE THE SNOW FALL STOPPED AND THERE WAS NO SUBSEQUENT PRECIP ON THE AIRPLANE. DURING CLB THE #1 FLT ATTENDANT CAME UP AND SAID THAT AN OFF DUTY CAPT WANTED TO SPEAK TO ME. HE CAME TO THE COCKPIT AND INFORMED ME THAT WE HAD A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF CLR ICE ON THE WINGS OF THE ACFT, OUTBOARD OF THE HEATER BLANKETS. THE ACFT WAS PERFORMING NORMALLY AND WE CONTINUED TO DFW WHERE THE ICE PEELED OFF ON DSCNT INTO WARMER AIR. I REQUESTED DFW MAINT INSPECT THE ENGS FOR POSSIBLE FOD ALTHOUGH I BELIEVE THE HEATER BLANKETS PREVENTED THIS. WITHOUT THEM IT IS QUITE POSSIBLE THAT WE COULD HAVE FODDED OUT BOTH ENGS WITH ICE.
