Narrative:

ZID forgot to hand us off to ZTL while en route from cvg to clt. By the time we reached hmu (the start of the shine 5 arrival to clt) we noticed their mistake and attempted to contact them. (We could hear them, but they could not hear us.) we tried several other frequencys but with no success. Finally we contacted clt approach who gave us a ZTL frequency. At this time we were over clt at 23000 ft. We descended without incident. I believe, due to 120 mph winds at altitude which gave us a speed of well over 600 KTS ground speed led to the fact that they forgot to hand us off. They are used to us flying the same route each day (6 times a day). Such high ground speeds are unusual on this route.

Title: ZID ARTCC CTLR FAILS TO HAND ACFT OFF TO ZTL ARTCC CTLR, ULTIMATELY RESULTING IN RPTR ENTERING ZTL AIRSPACE WITHOUT PERMISSION AND BEING OVER HIS DEST CITY AT 23000 FT MSL.

Narrative: ZID FORGOT TO HAND US OFF TO ZTL WHILE ENRTE FROM CVG TO CLT. BY THE TIME WE REACHED HMU (THE START OF THE SHINE 5 ARR TO CLT) WE NOTICED THEIR MISTAKE AND ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THEM. (WE COULD HEAR THEM, BUT THEY COULD NOT HEAR US.) WE TRIED SEVERAL OTHER FREQS BUT WITH NO SUCCESS. FINALLY WE CONTACTED CLT APCH WHO GAVE US A ZTL FREQ. AT THIS TIME WE WERE OVER CLT AT 23000 FT. WE DSNDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. I BELIEVE, DUE TO 120 MPH WINDS AT ALT WHICH GAVE US A SPD OF WELL OVER 600 KTS GND SPD LED TO THE FACT THAT THEY FORGOT TO HAND US OFF. THEY ARE USED TO US FLYING THE SAME RTE EACH DAY (6 TIMES A DAY). SUCH HIGH GND SPDS ARE UNUSUAL ON THIS RTE.
