Narrative:
After landing dfw (APU placarded inoperative), taxied to the gate with both engines running. After parking, I shut the right engine down and waited for extension power. We completed the parking checklist and while waiting for extension power, I began securing my kitbag. I got distraction and somehow did not shut the l-hand engine down. Shortly after walking off the plane, I thought about it and quickly returned. I should have had the first officer stop the checklist until power was connected -- I did not. It was the end of a 3 day trip and I just did not catch it. This has taught me how critically important it is to follow the checklist and stop until each item is accomplished -- even at the gate at the end of flight.

Title: A FOKKER 100 PARKED AT A GATE AFTER ARR WITH THE APU INOP HAD #1 ENG RUNNING FOR PWR. CREW COMPLETED THE PARKING CHKLIST AND EXITED THE ACFT THEN REALIZED THE #1 ENG WAS STILL OPERATING. CREW RETURNED AND SECURED ENG.
Narrative: AFTER LNDG DFW (APU PLACARDED INOP), TAXIED TO THE GATE WITH BOTH ENGS RUNNING. AFTER PARKING, I SHUT THE R ENG DOWN AND WAITED FOR EXTENSION PWR. WE COMPLETED THE PARKING CHKLIST AND WHILE WAITING FOR EXTENSION PWR, I BEGAN SECURING MY KITBAG. I GOT DISTR AND SOMEHOW DID NOT SHUT THE L-HAND ENG DOWN. SHORTLY AFTER WALKING OFF THE PLANE, I THOUGHT ABOUT IT AND QUICKLY RETURNED. I SHOULD HAVE HAD THE FO STOP THE CHKLIST UNTIL PWR WAS CONNECTED -- I DID NOT. IT WAS THE END OF A 3 DAY TRIP AND I JUST DID NOT CATCH IT. THIS HAS TAUGHT ME HOW CRITICALLY IMPORTANT IT IS TO FOLLOW THE CHKLIST AND STOP UNTIL EACH ITEM IS ACCOMPLISHED -- EVEN AT THE GATE AT THE END OF FLT.
